William A. Shaw, one of the best known business men
of the city, passed away at 11:10 o'clock Saturday night at his home at
1200 W. Main Street following a stroke of paralysis a week previous and
which was the second within a few months. Apparently he had recovered completely from the effects of the first stroke and had been about the
city as usual up to within a few days of his death. Mr. Shaw had
conducted a grocery business under the firm name of WA Shaw & Co.
for the past 32 years, his sons having been the junior members of the
firm and he had been located in business in several places in the city.
Mr. Shaw was born in Eminence, in this state on December 16, 1858, the
son of Leonard and Amanda Wallace Shaw. His father was a native of
Indiana while his mother had come to this state from Tennesse. 45 years ago
Mr. Shaw was married to Mary A. Ryan, Mr. Shaw came to this city, which
subsequently became his home and saw his rise to prominence in
business and civic life, from Ladoga, Ind. He was one of the leading
members of the Trinity Methodist Church and held membership in the
Eagles lodge. Many business and public leaders joined Sunday in
expressing sorrow at the death of Mr. Shaw, whose friendliness and
upright business methods had made him and his business firm he founded
one of the best known in this part of the state. He is survived by his
wife, and by four sons, Presley Shaw, Clio E Shaw and Noble R. Shaw of
this city and Roy Shaw of Indianapolis. Two sisters, a brother and six
grandchildren also survive. Funeral will be held from the home on W.
Main at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. The Rev. AL Miller of Trinity will
officiate and burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. - typed by kbz

Impressive
funeral rites were conducted from the home, 1200 W. Main Street, Tuesday
afternoon for William A. Shaw, widely known business man of this city,
who expired Saturday night following a paralytic stroke. Rev. Albert
Miller of the Trinity Methodist Church officiated at the service which
was attended by scores of friends of the deceased. The many beautiful
floral tributes told of the high esteem in which this community held Mr.
Shaw. Pall bearers included Earl WIlkinson, Ollie Watson, Charles
Stalker, William Endicott, Verne Livengood and Ray Burns. The honorary
pallbearers were Will Benjamin, Ed jack, Bert May, Clyde Klinger and
Albert Karle. The flower bearers were Mrs. Ollie Watson, Louise Johnson,
Mrs. PS Reynolds, Mrs. Walter Martin, Mrs. Joe Layson and Mrs. AE
Reynolds. Burial was made at Oak Hill Cemetery. - typed by kbz
